Tamil is one of the most ancient languages of the world, well known for its wealth of literature, and regarded as one of the classical languages alongside ancient Greek, Latin, Sanskrit and Chinese. Today there are more than sixty five million Tamil speakers around the world, concentrated mainly in India and Sri Lanka. Australia is home to an expatriate Tamil community of more than 80,000 Tamil Australians, who make their contribution in various ways in this multicultural Australia. An estimated twenty five thousand Tamil Australians live in New South Wales.

The Australian Society of Graduate Tamils (ASOGT) is an organization which runs a number of projects for the benefit of Tamil Australians. The ASoGT had its roots in the Sydney University Tamil Society (SUTS) but it has grown over the years to become a pan Australian Organization. Foremost among its projects are the publishing of ‘Kalappai’, a bilingual quarterly magazine, and the annual Tamil Competitions for school children and youth. Both of these projects have been running since 1994, and have become widely popular among the Tamil Australians.

The `InTAMIL’  website aims to preserve and improve the knowledge and competency in Tamil language among our youth, thereby contributing to preserve our identity in multicultural Australia. This website is designed to provide all necessary information on learning Tamil language and culture in the Tamil Diaspora. It is our desire that the `InTAMIL’ will help the young Tamil Australians not only to contribute back to the Tamil community but also to make a positive impact on the broader Australian community in many spheres.
